Isaacs, Rufus

Isaacs, Rufus
(1860-1935)
   British lawyer. He was the son of a London fruit merchant. He went into the stock market, but later studied law and became a barrister. In 1904 he was elected to parliament; in 1910 he became attorney-general and was knighted and subsequently made a peer. During World War I he secured a war loan from the US and served as a link between the prime minister and President Wilson. He served as special ambassador to Washington. He later became viceroy of India.
